How to Write an Essay That Gets CitedAs a student, you'll most likely start composing an essay based on your topic sentence. But is it enough? This is a critical component of the essay, and one that will determine whether or not your article gets read.
In terms of writing a better essay, some writers get all the references they need from Google or other search engines; some use keyword research; others add in statement citations. Whichever approach you take, it's important to know that the sentence that contains your article's topic should be cited properly. By the end of this article, you'll have a better idea of the most basic way to do so. In the fourteenth paragraph of the first paragraph of your essay, insert a period followed by a comma. This allows for a complete sentence containing the essay topic to be published, with the full sentence being then created. Immediately following this is the actual body of your essay. In addition, you should also include one or two words that can be placed directly between the period and the comma: a reference or a quotation. However, before any other paragraphs begin, the new sentence will be highlighted with a blue, bold font color, similar to that which is used in the introduction of the essay. If there are no spacing issues to be had, the following paragraph's opening will be highlighted as well. A snippet from a newspaper or magazine article is one example of a good source, or a list of the year's highest selling authors, movie directors, or politicians. Whether you are just looking to use a snippet or as a whole piece of content, make sure to begin the citation by inserting a quotation mark. From here, the new sentence you've inserted should be contained within double quotes. Then, in the body of the paragraph, a single quotation mark should be used. Finally, the closing quotation mark should be inserted before the final line, just like it is done in the rest of the essay. As with any essay, your own essay will obviously have much more complicated rules than those explained above. The key, however, is to be familiar with the basics of citation, and how to correctly incorporate them into your own essays. As you work through your articles, you'll notice that many of them begin with the same format. Make sure to check for the proper spelling and punctuation when writing your own essays. Doing so will make your articles a lot easier to write and read.
